World Cancer Day
Der Umgang mit den steigenden Krebserkrankungen ist entscheidend für die Zukunft der EU. Hier geht es um millionenfaches menschliches Leid und damit verbundene familiäre Schicksale. Gleichzeitig geht es aber auch um die Frage der Belastung unserer Gesundheitssysteme durch den prognostizierten Anstieg von 2,7 Millionen jährlichen Neuerkrankungen um weitere 19 Prozent bis zum Jahr 2040. Mir liegt dieses Thema sehr am Herzen. Deshalb habe ich intensiv im Sonderausschuss zur Bekämpfung von Krebs mitgearbeitet und deshalb habe ich auch in den entsprechenden Fachausschüssen ENVI und SANT immer auf ganzheitliche Lösungen gedrängt, die nicht nur die bestmögliche Behandlung von Krebs, sondern auch eine geeignete Prävention der Ursachen im Blick hat und dabei auch auf Umweltfaktoren wie Luftverschmutzung, Pestizide oder die dadurch emittierten Ewigkeitschemikalien PFAS im Blick hat. Hier hat die EU noch Nachholbedarf, auf den ich weiterhin konsequent hinweisen werde. Deshalb war es mir auch ein persönliches Anliegen, mit einer Stimmerklärung zu dieser begrüßenswerten Resolution, diesen Aspekt nochmals hervorzuheben.
