Resolution on the brutal repression against protesters in Iran
Bei der Abstimmung über die Entschließung zum brutalen Vorgehen gegen Demonstranten in Iran habe ich mich enthalten. Ich möchte dies wie folgt begründen: Selbstverständlich verurteile ich die Gewalt von Polizei, Militär und Geheimdienst der Islamischen Republik Iran gegen friedliche Demonstranten in den letzten Wochen. Die Entschließung erwähnt jedoch nicht, dass es belastbare Anhaltspunkte dafür gibt, dass auch ausländische Akteure zur Verschärfung der Proteste beigetragen haben und es zu Gewaltausbrüchen gegen Ordnungskräfte gekommen ist. Maßgeblich für meine Enthaltung bei der Entschließung allerdings ist der Umstand, dass sie jegliche Gespräche mit offiziellen Vertretern der Islamischen Republik Iran ablehnt und eine Verschärfung der Sanktionen fordert. Diese Strategie hat sich bereits in der Vergangenheit als ungeeignet erwiesen, einen demokratischen Machtwechsel herbeizuführen, und lediglich dazu beigetragen, die Not der Bevölkerung im Iran zu vergrößern. Einen Regime Change auf diesem Wege herbeizuführen, wird das Land mit großer Wahrscheinlichkeit ins Chaos stürzen und – ähnlich wie beispielsweise in Libyen, Irak und Syrien – eine große Flüchtlingswelle nach Europa auslösen.

Ich habe gegen die Einrichtung eines Sonderausschusses zur Wohnraumkrise in der Europäischen Union gestimmt. Die Schaffung von bezahlbarem Wohnraum ist eines der dringendsten Probleme in zahlreichen Ballungszentren Europas. Der Wohnungsmarkt ist jedoch ein regionaler Markt, der zunehmend von internationalen Wohnungskonzernen dominiert wird. Die Schaffung von mehr bezahlbarem Wohnraum ist ein Problem unzureichender öffentlicher Investitionen in den EU-Mitgliedstaaten, der Verteuerung und Finanzialisierung des Wohnungsbaus. Hierbei ist die EU zumeist das Problem, nicht die Lösung, da sie etwa mehr öffentliche Investitionen in den Mitgliedstaaten über Fiskalregeln und Beihilferecht erschwert und die Finanzialisierung fördert.
